NORTHWEST SAPS HOST BACK TO BASICS PARADE AND ANNOUCEMENT OF PROMOTIONS

Northwest SAPS hosted back to basics parade, coupled with announcement of rank promotions at SAPS Provincial Office in Potchefstroom on Tuesday. We are aware that in the cycle of life every person aspires for growth in ones career and promotion is a way of recognising the selfless contributions and dedication by an employer, to improve employee’s performance, ambition and hard work that make them feel valued.

The event was graced by the presence of MEC Sello Lehari for Community Safety and Transport Management, Head of Department Ms Botlhale Mofokeng and the Executive Managers of the department. In his address MEC Lehari reflected that this event marks a milestone where excellence, commitment and dedication deployed by many men and women in blue serve and protect with honour, dignity, without fear or favour to uphold the constitution of the republic is recognised and celebrated. A total of number of 91 promotions is as follows 14 Colonels, 14 Lieutenant Colonels, 32 Captains and 20 Warrant Officers. There were also 11 PSA appointee personnel

It is common knowledge that most of you have been working tirelessly and looking forward to a moment like this in your careers, we are here today, to bear testimony that God Almighty has answered, and congratulations are in order. However, one must always remember that promotion to a higher rank comes with great accountability and responsibility, meaning a lot is expected from you so emphasized the MEC.

MEC indicated that the monthly back to basics parade is welcomed as an intervention strategy that will address most of the stubborn crimes in our province. Our country is going through a dark patch of senseless and ruthless challenge of gender based violence crimes that escalate murder and rape. We have seen through the recent released crime stats that even our Province is not spared from this brutality that has befallen the country. The national development plan clearly stipulates that all people living in South Africa should not live in fear of crime, particularly women, children and vulnerable groups must be protected at all times. MEC strongly condemned all gender based violence crimes including the recent shocking incident of a stepfather allegedly killing a three year old boy and seriously injured a seven year old brother at Mahikeng.

The Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant General Baile Motswenyane applauded the promoted officials; she urged them to vigorously combat crime, serve and protect communities with pride and dignity and heartedly thanked the support of MEC Lehari and his executive managers who were present at the event.
